Materials

What is your jewellery really made of?

From stainless steel to sterling silver, and the finishes that give each piece its character.

A simple guide to 304 stainless steel, 316L stainless steel, 925 sterling silver and gold plating.

The material matters

Beautiful jewellery begins long before the final shine. The metal beneath the surface influences how a piece feels, wears and should be cared for.

At SÉVRA, our collection includes different materials and finishes because different designs call for different constructions. You may find pieces crafted from 304 stainless steel, 316L stainless steel or 925 sterling silver, with selected designs finished in gold plating.

And because we believe you should know what you’re wearing, you’ll always find the material of your piece in its product details.

304 stainless steel

304 stainless steel is strong, durable and well suited to fashion jewellery. It allows us to create polished, contemporary pieces that are designed to become part of your everyday wardrobe.

Like all jewellery, caring for it properly will help maintain its appearance for longer.

316L stainless steel

316L stainless steel is known for its excellent durability and resistance to corrosion, making it a popular material for jewellery designed for frequent wear.

You’ll often find it in SÉVRA pieces where we want a combination of strength, polish and everyday practicality.

925 sterling silver

The 925 mark means the piece is made from sterling silver containing 92.5% pure silver, with the remaining percentage made from other metals to improve its strength.

As a precious-metal base, sterling silver has a different character from stainless steel. It can naturally tarnish over time, but with appropriate care and polishing, its appearance can be refreshed.

And what about gold plating?

This is where material and finish become important.

A piece can be made from stainless steel and gold plated, or it can be made from 925 sterling silver and gold plated.

So when you see gold plated, it describes the beautiful gold-coloured finish on the surface, not necessarily the metal underneath.

Caring for your SÉVRA

Whichever material you choose, thoughtful care helps your jewellery stay beautiful.

Avoid unnecessary contact with perfume, lotions and harsh chemicals. Remove your pieces before swimming or showering, gently wipe them after wear, and store them separately in a dry place.

Gold-plated pieces deserve a little extra care because plating is a surface finish and can gradually change with wear. The care guide sets out what each material needs.

Know your piece

We don’t believe jewellery materials should be confusing.

Every SÉVRA design has its own story, and its own construction. That’s why we’ll tell you what your piece is made from, so you can choose based on the design you love, the way you wear it and the material you prefer.

Every piece states its own construction

Material, finish and care sit in the details of each product page.
