Care & FAQs

How to keep it looking like the day it arrived

Your SÉVRA pieces are made to be worn and enjoyed. A little care will help keep them looking their best for longer — and below that, the straight answers to the questions we actually get asked.

What each material needs

Stainless steel

Our stainless steel pieces may be crafted from 316L or 304 stainless steel, depending on the design.

Stainless steel is durable and suitable for everyday wear. If your piece comes into contact with water, simply dry it thoroughly afterwards.

For plated pieces, repeated exposure to chlorine, salt water, perfumes and chemicals may gradually affect the finish over time.

Gold-plated jewellery

Gold plating is a surface finish and may naturally change with wear. To help preserve the colour and shine:

  • Avoid spraying perfume directly onto your jewellery
  • Remove before using harsh cleaning products
  • Minimise prolonged exposure to chlorine and salt water
  • Wipe gently after wear
  • Avoid abrasive cleaners or polishing cloths on plated surfaces

925 sterling silver

Sterling silver can naturally tarnish over time. This is normal and does not mean the piece is damaged.

Gently clean your silver jewellery with a soft silver-polishing cloth and store it in a dry place when not being worn.

Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaning products.

Water & everyday wear

Some SÉVRA pieces are more water-resistant than others, depending on the material and finish.

Always check the individual product page for the specific material, plating and care guidance for your piece.

A little reminder

Jewellery naturally changes with wear over time. Small scratches, changes in shine or gradual plating wear can be part of normal use. Treat your pieces with care, wear them often, and let them become part of your story.

Straight answers

The eight questions people actually ask

Two of these are answered against our own interest. We would rather lose a sale than have a piece arrive and disappoint.

No. Green skin comes from copper and brass reacting with sweat. SÉVRA pieces are 18K gold plated onto 316L surgical stainless steel — the same grade used for surgical instruments and body piercings. There is no copper or brass anywhere in the piece.

316L is also the grade chosen for body piercings precisely because it releases very little nickel — the metal behind most contact allergies. We will not tell you it is nickel-free, because no stainless steel is, but if you react to costume jewellery you are far less likely to react here.

Shower and sleep, yes — that is what these are built for. Fresh water, soap and sweat do nothing to the plating.

Sea water and chlorinated pools are harder on any plated finish. You can swim in SÉVRA, and plenty of people do, but chlorine will shorten the life of the plating over months of daily pool use. If you swim every day, rinse it in fresh water afterwards.

The gold is real gold. It is a layer of 18K gold bonded onto a stainless steel core, rather than a solid gold piece. That is the whole reason a SÉVRA necklace is AED 215 and a solid 18K one is closer to AED 4,000.

What you get for the difference: the same colour, the same weight in the hand, and a piece you will not panic about losing. What you give up: solid gold can be melted and resold. Plated cannot. If you are buying an heirloom, buy solid gold. If you are buying something to wear every day for years, buy this.

We do not say “tarnishproof”, because no plated piece is. Plating is a wear surface, like the sole of a shoe.

In normal daily wear our plating holds its colour well. Rings wear fastest because hands take the most abrasion; earrings and pendants last longest. Following the care guide above — perfume before jewellery, a dry cloth after wear, stored dry — is what makes the difference between one year and several.

Wrap a strip of paper around the base of your finger, mark where it overlaps, and measure the length in millimetres. 49mm is a US 5, 52mm a US 6, 54mm a US 7, 57mm a US 8, 59mm a US 9.

Measure at the end of the day, when fingers are at their largest. If you land between sizes, go up — a ring that spins is more comfortable than one that does not come off. You can request one complimentary size exchange within 30 days of delivery, subject to availability.

Orders placed before 4pm GST on a working day are dispatched the same day. Sharjah and Abu Dhabi arrive the next working day; other emirates take two to three working days, and the wider GCC three to six. Delivery is free over AED 200 and AED 20 below that.

You can request a return within 15 days of delivery, with pieces unworn, unused, undamaged and in their original packaging. For UAE orders we can arrange a courier collection; a return collection fee of AED 20 is deducted from the refund, waived if the item arrived incorrect, damaged or faulty.

For hygiene reasons, earrings and pierced jewellery cannot be returned or exchanged unless faulty. This does not affect any rights you may have under applicable consumer protection laws.
