Jewellery vs. Dubai Summer

How to care for your pieces through heat, humidity and everything in between.

A practical guide to perfume, sunscreen, sweat, water and storage.

Dubai summers are made for light clothes, long evenings and a little extra gold. But heat, humidity, sweat, sunscreen and perfume can all leave their mark on jewellery, particularly plated pieces.

The good news? A few small habits can make a big difference.

Perfume first. Jewellery last.

Perfume, body lotion and hairspray should be given time to dry before you put your jewellery on. Direct contact with fragrance and cosmetic products can gradually dull the finish.

Give sunscreen a minute.

Sunscreen is essential, but try not to apply it directly over your jewellery. Apply it first, allow it to absorb, then add your pieces.

After a hot day, wipe it down.

Dubai heat means sweat is unavoidable. Before putting your jewellery away, gently wipe it with a soft, dry polishing cloth to remove moisture, oils and product residue.

Pool and sea? Jewellery stays behind.

Chlorinated and salt water are not friends of plated jewellery. Take your pieces off before swimming, showering or heading into the sea.

Don’t leave it in the bathroom.

Humidity can accelerate tarnishing. Store each piece somewhere cool and dry, ideally separately in its SÉVRA pouch to reduce scratching and exposure to moisture.

And the simplest rule of all:

Your jewellery should be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off.

A little care goes a long way.
